Mowing operation causes vegetation fire

On Monday, July 20th, 2020, at approximately 5:00 pm, the Turlock Fire Department received a call of a vegetation fire in the 900 block of Dianne Dr. The Turlock Fire Department responded with Battalion 4, Squad 32, and Engine 34. Squad 32 arrived on scene at approximately 5:10 pm. Upon their arrival, they located a fire approximately half an acre in size. Captain 32 assumed command. Squad 32’s crew began attacking the fire.

Shortly after, Battalion 4 and Engine 34 arrived on scene. Battalion 4 took command from Captain 32. Engine 34’s crew also started assisting Squad 32’s crew with fire attack. Two type-3 engines were also requested to respond as apart of a countywide mutual aid agreement. Turlock Rural Fire Department Brush 50 responded as well as Keyes Fire Protection District Brush 51. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in just over an hour and half. Units began clearing at approximately 6:45 pm.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. It started at some point during an agricultural mowing operation. No arson investigation will be taking place.
