Drunk driver arrested after fleeing from collision scene Friday evening

On Friday, June 11th, 2021, at approximately 5:50 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call of a property damage vehicle collision that had just occurred at the intersection of E Hawkeye Ave and N Daubenberger Rd. The caller reported that he was broadsided by a vehicle being driven by a female, later identified as Leticia Ferreyra, 38, of Stockton, and that she had failed to stop. Witnesses attempted to block Ferreyra in, however, they were unsuccessful in their efforts and she was able to escape.

Multiple witnesses followed Ferreyra to Geer Rd and E Whitmore Ave in unincorporated Hughson, where her vehicle became disabled and caught fire. Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Ferreyra and detained her until the Turlock Police Department could respond and take over the scene, and the Hughson Fire Protection District responded to put out the fire.

When Turlock Police officers arrived in Hughson, they asked Ferreyra to conduct field sobriety tests and provide a sample of her breathe because she was displaying symptoms of intoxication. Ferreyra refused to conduct the tests, so she was placed under arrest. Ferreyra was transported to a local area hospital to provide a blood sample, which she also refused. An on-call judge authorized a search warrant for her blood. After her blood was obtained, she was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run causing property damage, and driving with a suspended license.
