On Sunday, July 18th, 2021, at approximately 6:35 pm, a Turlock Police officer on patrol in the area of Chestnut St and N Soderquist Rd attempted to make a traffic stop on a quad for a violation of the California Vehicle Code. The driver, later identified as David Zamora, 18, of Turlock, failed to yield to the officer and a pursuit ensued. Zamora led the officer to W Canal Dr and N Walnut Rd before the pursuit was terminated due to him recklessly off roading next to the canal.
A couple of minutes later, another officer in the area of Countryside Dr and Fulkerth Rd had Zamora drive by her. She also attempted a traffic stop but he failed to yield and the pursuit continued. Eventually, that officer Zamora near Summerfaire Park, however, a minute later, a call was received from a resident in the 1000 block of Gallery Ct reporting the Zamora was driving in their front yard.
The original officer located Zamora in that area and continued the pursuit. Zamora led that officer and others to and through Summerfaire Park before crashing into a tree at the park and foot bailing into the fairgrounds.
Officers chased Zamora on foot for a minute before losing him, however, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office’s airship responded and found an area at the fairgrounds with a heat signature. Officers went to that area, including Officer Marco Diaz with his canine partner Ace. When Canine Ace got to the area, he began barking. Officers located Zamora there and were able to successfully take him into custody.
Zamora was transported to a local area hospital to be medically cleared before being booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of flight from a peace officer with disregard to public safety, driving without a license, driving a motorcycle without a helmet, and driving without registration.
Officers had a similar pursuit earlier in the week on Thursday, July 15th, 2021, at approximately 8:40 pm. It is currently unknown if it is related to this one.
