Freeway shoulder grass fire extends to exterior of commercial structure Monday afternoon
On Monday, May 23rd, 2022, at 3:22 pm, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, and Turlock Rural Fire Protection District were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire southbound State Route 99 just south of W Main St, Turlock.
When crews arrived on scene, they found a grass fire on the southbound shoulder that had spread to the exterior of a commercial structure at 818 S Walnut Rd. Additionally, due to high winds, embers from the first fire made their way to the northbound shoulder and started a second fire.
Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control and extinguish it, preventing any further spread, including to the interior of the structure.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
