Vehicle’s engine compartment catches fire while being driven, driver flees on foot early Friday morning

On Friday, September 9th, 2022, at 12:39 am, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at Arco AMPM, 2219 Lander Ave, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a vehicle with an engine compartment fire across the street from the gas station underneath live power lines.

Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out and prevent it from spreading to anything nearby, including the power lines above it.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was being driven prior to the fire and that the driver had fled the area on foot.

The Turlock Police Department responded and determined that the vehicle was not stolen. The area was checked, however, the driver was unable to be located.
