Man arrested after attempting to rob discount store Tuesday night

On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, at 8:12 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported robbery that had just occurred at Dollar Tree, 1320 W Main St, Turlock.

Officers arrived on scene and learned that a man, later identified as Larry Spurlock, 61, of Turlock, had entered the business with a bandana covering his face and approached the cashier. Spurlock was alleged to have demanded money after making threats, while motioning as if he had a gun. The cashier called for a manager, which is when Spurlock left the store disappointed that he had not gotten any money.

About an hour later, at 9:16 pm, Spurlock was spotted walking on S Orange St near Vermont Ave. He was still wearing the same clothes that he was wearing during the attempted robbery.

Officers identified Spurlock and had their dispatcher run him. He returned with a local no bail misdemeanor warrant for theft.

Spurlock was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted robbery as well as his warrant.

  1. It’s pretty sad that a senior man has to rob a dollar store to survive! What does that tell you about out economy and how our seniors are making it? He’s not even 62 to collect any funds. Wonder if he’s a VA Vet? Yet people who come here who aren’t citizens get more help.
