Drunk driver arrested after crashing into two vehicles and fleeing scene Wednesday night

On Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, at 11:12 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported hit and run that had just occurred in front of a residence in the 500 block of N Palm St, Turlock.

As officers were responding, they received information that a witness to the collision had followed the suspect vehicle to Wayside Villa Apartments, 651 Wayside Dr.

Officers arrived at the apartment complex and located the suspect vehicle, a white Scion sedan.

The vehicle had a single occupant, its driver, Jason Dutra, 29, of Turlock. He did not suffer any injuries.

While officers were speaking with Dutra, they noticed that he was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Dutra agreed and completed the tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Dutra was under the influence of alcohol.

Dutra was arrested and provided two evidentiary breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The breath samples revealed that Dutra had a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.

Other officers responded to the collision scene and found two vehicles left there. One was a gray Chevrolet SUV and the other one was a black GMC SUV.

Both vehicles had been unoccupied and were legally parked on the side of the road when the collision occurred.

The white Scion sedan and the gray Chevrolet SUV both sustained moderate damage and were deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring them to be towed away. The black GMC SUV sustained minor damage as a result of the collision and was left parked where it was.

Dutra was transported to a local hospital where he was medically cleared.

Afterwards, Dutra was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.
