Shoplifter arrested after being spotted by officer riding bicycle away from the area Friday evening

On Friday, April 28th, 2023, at 6:07 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported shoplifting that had just occurred at Tractor Supply Company, 201 N Walnut Rd, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene and contacted employees, they stated that a man had walked out of the business with unpaid merchandise and fled on a bicycle toward Starbucks.

A different officer checking the area for the suspect found a man matching his description riding a bicycle past the Burger King, so he made a bicycle stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the man as Joshua Scott, 21, of Modesto.

When the officer had his dispatcher run Scott, he discovered that he was on probation for burglary and driving under the influence of drugs.

The officer took a photo of Scott and sent it to the investigating officer, who showed it to the employees. The employees were able to positively identify Scott as the suspect and placed him under citizen’s arrest.

Scott was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of theft and violation of probation.
