Man with misdemeanor warrant arrested during open door investigation early Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023, at 2:21 am, a Turlock Police officer near Farmland Management Services, 301 E Main St, Turlock, noticed that the business had an open back door, so he got out to investigate.

The officer eventually encountered a man in the area later identified as Erick Bustos, 44, of Turlock. Bustos had not actually been seen in the building, however, the officer had reasonable suspicion to conduct an investigatory stop based on the totality of the circumstances.

When Bustos was told he was being detained, he began to passively resist the officer, however, was able to eventually be handcuffed without incident.

Additional officers arrived on scene and went inside to search the building for anyone else who may have been in there, however, no one was located.

Officers determined that Bustos hadn’t committed any crimes, however, he ended up having a $2,000 local misdemeanor bench warrant for public intoxication and falsely identifying to a peace officer.

Bustos was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.
