Parolee-at-large arrested with two guns during traffic stop Thursday night

On Thursday, March 2nd, 2023, at 9:25 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of S Golden State Blvd and E Main St, Turlock, observed a driver violating the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the vehicle’s four occupants, including passengers Marcos Perez, 18, of Turlock, and Luis Torres, 21, of El Nido.

When the officer had his dispatcher run the vehicle’s four occupants, he discovered that the driver was on post release community supervision, so he removed everyone from the vehicle to conduct a PRCS search. During the search, two handguns were located underneath a seat.

Information gathered during the investigation led to Perez and Torres being linked to the guns. They were both arrested.

After Torres was arrested, it was discovered that he had a no-bail felony bench warrant out of Merced County for violation of parole. The delay in the discovery was caused by a human miscommunication error during the identification process.

Perez and Torres were both booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Perez on the charge of carrying a concealed firearm and Torres on charges of possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed firearm, and violation of parole, as well as his warrant.
