On Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 12:58 am, Turlock Police Officer Kauffman attempted to make a bicycle stop near N Golden State Blvd and E Olive Ave.
Instead of stopping, Joseph Poma, 43, of Riverbank, decided to ride off from Officer Kauffman. As Officer Kauffman caught up with Poma, a brief struggle ensued on the ground, and Poma was arrested.
After Officer Kauffman had his dispatcher run Poma, he discovered he was on searchable probation for carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.
While being moved to a different patrol vehicle, Poma made statements that he knew his rights and it was his choice to either be booked into jail or released on a citation.
It should be noted that in 2024, Poma had decided to square up with Officer Aziz at the same intersection, after telling him that he was on probation. At the time, Officer Aziz had to draw his TASER on Poma, and he continued to act hostile until additional officers arrived on scene.
Poma was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for resisting a peace officer.
