On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 9:58 pm, Turlock Police Officer Lupe attempted to make a traffic stop at N Golden State Blvd and W Taylor Rd.
A stolen 2001 Honda Civic had just hit on a nearby Flock Safety license plate reader, and Officer Lupe had located it.
“The vehicle failed to yield and began to evade [Officer Lupe],” said Public Affairs Analyst Sanchez. “A pursuit was initiated and ultimately ended in the 6600 block of E Hatch Rd in Hughson due to the vehicle crashing in an orchard.”
Following the crash, driver Dustin Robinson, 26, of Keyes, and his female passenger, fled from the vehicle. With the assistance of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol, officers established a perimeter in the area and began a canvas.
A short time later, at 10:17 pm, officers heard a verbal disturbance occurring at a residence on the property. As officers ran toward the residence, they heard several gunshots and people screaming. Officers quickly learned that the shots had been fired by the property owner, who had come across Robinson. Following the shots, Robinson continued to flee.
The property owner was compliant with officers and assisted by providing a description and surveillance video of Robinson. Based on that information, officers confirmed that Robinson had made it outside of the perimeter after the shooting and was likely no longer in the area. The perimeter was broken down.
Minutes later, at 11:30 pm, Investigator De La Cruz located Robinson outside of the EG Cigarettes Store in the 6800 block of Hughson Ave. Investigator De La Cruz detained Robinson at gunpoint, identified him, and discovered that he was on post-release community supervision for theft and receiving a stolen vehicle. A subsequent in-field show-up led to the property owner positively identifying Robinson as the person he had fired upon on his property.
Robinson was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for fleeing a peace officer by vehicle with disregard for public safety, fleeing a peace officer by vehicle against traffic, auto theft, receiving a stolen vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of burglary tools, resisting a peace officer, 11 counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, and violation of post-release community supervision.
Additionally, the stolen vehicle was recovered and towed away from the scene, while the property owner’s gun was seized and booked as evidence.
The female passenger has yet to be located, but officers are actively pursuing leads to identify her.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Lupe at 209-668-1200.
