Apparent Suicide by Train Investigated

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 8:29 am, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision with injuries at N Broadway and N Front St.

The caller, a Union Pacific representative, reported that one of their southbound trains had hit a pedestrian in the area.

Officers arrived on scene and located Steven Brewer, 73, of Stevinson, obviously deceased at 8:35 am.

The subsequent investigation indicated the manner of death was likely suicide, as Brewer had stepped directly into the path of the oncoming train.

A deputy coroner arrived on scene and collected Brewer’s body.

Three railroad crossings were blocked for roughly three hours while this incident unfolded.
